Built in 1932 and designed by the architects Cavanagh and Cavanagh (also responsible for the Brass Monkey in Northbridge and the Sail and anchor in Fremantle) it first traded as the Balmoral Hotel. Now after 73 years, several name changes and a few well spent dollars, Australian Leisure and Hospitality Group have turned a Victoria Park landmark into one of the towns most popular venues. Already a hit with the locals, balmoral is set to be a successful venue, offering sensational food, fine wines, specialty beers and benchmark service standards.
Modelled on the Queens in Mount Lawley, Balmoral takes on a ‘de-constructed’ look with exposed brick and broken plasterwork. Elements of original timber and brickwork, stainless steel and terrazzo craft a modern venue inside a gorgeous example of Georgian revival architecture. Subtle lighting and café tunes combine to create an atmosphere for the Balmoral that exudes comfort for that ‘local experience’.
The Backyard BBQ area is the perfect place to escape the hustle of the bar any time with recycled pavers, subtle downlights on the walls and feature lights on massive palm trees creating the most ambient of beer gardens to relax in.
The wide verandah around the front of the building provides shade from the harsh West Australian sun whilst the shady satin oaks and umbrellas in the Courtyard offer prime position for those who prefer a bit more action.
Given the reputation of its sister pubs, it won’t be too long before the Balmoral secures its own place in contemporary Australian pub culture.
